A. Privacy Policy

Policy Statement

This policy outlines The Chartwell Foundation’s (TCF) commitment to respecting the privacy of personal information of individual persons and explains how we collect, use, protect and disclose personal information.

This policy governs the activities of TCF, an autonomous organization, legally separate from Chartwell Retirement Residences.


To protect donor privacy and maintain the confidentiality of their personal information.

Our Commitment to Protecting Your Privacy

TCF recognizes that we rely on the support of individuals who engage with us to support seniors with living a life of purpose, connectedness, and engagement through wish granting. We recognize that information is precious, and individuals engaged with TCF trust us to treat their information with respect for their privacy and remain committed to protecting the confidentiality of data. It is essential that we protect the privacy of the personal information individuals may choose to share with us or that we may gather by other lawful means.

What is Personal Information?

Personal information refers to information about an identifiable individual, but excludes certain business contact information, specifically name, title, business address or telephone number of an employee of an organization. From time to time, TCF may, acting reasonably, collect information about identifiable individuals from published or public sources for the purposes of developing relationships with individuals.

Collection, Use and Disclosure of Personal Information

The areas in which TCF collects and uses personal information in accordance with this policy are principally, but not limited to:

Community: TCF’s work to help seniors live a life of purpose, connectedness and engagement involves working with individuals acting on their own initiative or as representatives of community agencies, governments and other partner organizations that share the common objective of fulfilling the dreams of seniors. TCF gathers and uses personal information to keep individuals informed about relevant TCF activities and work, and with permission, may share personal information with others who share similar social objectives and a desire for networking.

Donations: TCF will collect and use personal information necessary to process donations and payments, redirect a donation or any part of a donation to another charity as instructed by the donor, issue tax receipts, confirm renewal of giving and maintain a donation history, keep donors informed about giving opportunities and the work of TCF, acknowledge and recognize donations, and comply with federal and provincial regulatory guidelines and reporting requirements.

Event Participation: TCF will collect and use personal information necessary to communicate with individuals about events, contests and promotions that they participate in, issues concerning related transactions, information about other events that they may be interested in and the work of TCF; to recognize participation and award prizes; and to comply with federal and provincial regulatory guidelines and reporting requirements.

TCF may also share personal information with selected third parties including:

  • For purposes of administering, evaluating, and performing program applications and donation agreements;
  • As described in our application forms or donation agreements;
  • Our service providers who provide certain services to us such as our online donation management system and data hosting.  We will use contractual arrangements to protect personal information disclosed to these service providers;
  • Analytics and search engine providers that assist us in the improvement and optimization of the TCF website (“Site”).

TCF may also disclose your personal information third parties:

  • If we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal information in order to comply with any legal obligation, or as we believe in good faith may be reasonably necessary to comply with any law, regulation, rule, court order, or other lawful requests from governmental, regulatory or administrative agencies or law enforcement authorities (including in response to law enforcement or national security requirements), or in order to enforce or apply our terms of use, and other agreements; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of TCF members or others;
  • As otherwise may be required or permitted by applicable law.


TCF may use browser cookies on this Site to keep track of your visit to our Site. Use of cookies may allow TCF to provide a higher quality, more relevant, visitor experience. Withdrawal of Consent

Individuals have the right to withdraw their consent to the collection, use, or disclosure of personal information at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice.  Notwithstanding the foregoing, if you withdraw consent we nonetheless reserve the right to retain, collect, use and disclose personal information without your consent where we are required or permitted by applicable law to do so.

Any changes TCF may make to our policy in the future will be posted on this page. The date this policy was last revised is identified on the top of this page.  Please check back frequently to see any updates or changes to our policy.

B. Terms of Use


To the best of TCF’s knowledge, the information contained on this Site is accurate in all material respects at the time of publication. TCF reserves the right to make changes and updates to the information at any time and without notice. TCF assumes no liability for damages incurred by the user of this information, which occur directly or indirectly as a result of errors, omissions or discrepancies in the information. Any person or entity that relies on information contained herein does so at his or her own risk.
