Milan Celebic, 83, enjoys watching various sports, but his all-time favourite is horse racing. He always attended live races as an avid fan up until the closure of the Windsor track many years ago. Since then, Milan dreamed of once again experiencing the electric energy of a live horse race.
Milan loves to spend time with his family and share his passions with them. In fact, the thrill of live races is one of the things he and his son Nick bonded over when Nick was growing up. A memory they both still cherish is visiting and walking around the racetracks.
The Chartwell Foundation was thrilled to send Milan, along with his son Nick and his daughter-in-law, back to the racetrack. They spent a fun-filled weekend in Toronto and attended the Canadian International Horse Race, live at Woodbine Racetrack.
The trio comfortably watched the race from the Stella Artois Terrace, a unique, upscale outdoor patio that overlooks the racetrack and offers expansive city views. To make his experience even more special, Milan was invited to take a picture with the winning horse!
Milan’s story is an inspiration to us all and a testament to how exciting life can be even in retirement. “So often, a lot of people think that as you get older, your dreams diminish, and that’s not the case. You still have them,” shares Milan’s daughter-in-law. “You don’t give up your passions, you don’t give up your dreams, you just get a little bit older.”
